SEQUENCE 1_03 - "THRONE"

1_03_00a WOOT and TIN SERVANT into the courtyard of the TIN CASTLE.

1_03_00b WOOT looks around as he walks beside TIN SERVANT past a TIN FOUNTAIN towards a TIN GARDEN.

1_03_00c WOOT follows TIN SERVANT walks out of a TIN GARDEN.

1_03_00d WOOT follows TIN SERVANT over a catwalk.

1_03_00e WOOT walks through a dark hallway towards and opening.

1_03_01 WOOT looks around distracted, and is surprised by what is in front of him.

1_03_02 WOOT looks around a gigantic THROWN ROOM of ornate workmanship — all in tin.

1_03_03 WOOT walks down steps into the THRONE ROOM.

1_03_04 TIN SERVANT leads WOOT across THRONE ROOM.

1_03_05 TIN SERVANT halts, so does WOOT. They are both looking forward.

1_03_06 TIN WOODMAN is balancing his axe on his chin.

1_03_07 Balanced on the head of the axe is a settee.

1_03_11 Beside TIN WOODMAN’S throne, SCARECROW sits on a stool playing chess on a small table. He ponders the game, then smiles and moves a piece triumpfully.

1_03_09 WOOT goggles up at them as he approaches the throne. SERVANT clears his throat. WOOT bows politely.

WOOT

Oh, uh… I salute your... Illustrious, Tin Majesty.

1_03_10 TIN WOODMAN seems to not take any notice while he juggles his axe on his chin. TIN WOODMAN toss the axe into the air and deftly catches it on his foot.

1_03_08 SCARECROW glances up then goes back to his game.

1_03_12 TIN WOODMAN finally looks over at WOOT, still distracted by his axe juggling.

TIN WOODMAN

Um... Oh, you're welcome, young man. Welcome.

1_03_13 TIN WOODMAN holds the axe balancing the sette in one hand.

1_03_14 Tin Woodman's axe and Woot's stool fly in a big arc near the ceiling of the throne room.

1_03_17 WOOT sees something above him, ducks.

1_03_17a TIN WOODMAN looks into the air, reaches out...

1_03_17b The settee lands on the axe near WOOT.

1_03_18 TIN WOODMAN

    Won't you have a seat?

1_03_19 WOOT

    Thank you sire.

1_03_20 WOOT sits down, smiles.

1_03_21 TIN WOODMAN

Now tell me: who are you, and from where have you come?

1_03_21a SCARECROW

    Do, tell.

1_03_22 WOOT stands up to announce his story.

WOOT

If it pleases your majesty. I am Woot... The wanderer... And I’ve come through my travels to see you.

1_03_23 SCARECROW is unconvinced.

SCARECROW

   Hmm? A traveler? Very interesting…

1_03_24 TIN WOODMAN

  Uh? What is?

SCARECROW (OS)

   Well… to find somebody in

1_03_25 SCARECROW suspects WOOT is exaggerating the truth.

SCARECROW

Oz who loves to travel, especially with all of the dangers and hardships about.

1_03_27 TIN WOODMAN

    Oh, of course. Interesting, indeed.

1_03_28 SCARECROW gives Woot the opportunity to tell whatever story it is he has come to tell.

SCARECROW

So tell me young Woot, what grand wonders have you encountered in your many travels?

1_03_29 WOOT has no story prepared to prove himself and adventurer.

WOOT

Yes... You see... I came to...

1_03_30 SCARECROW regards WOOT quizzically.

WOOT (OS)

    Ah...

1_03_31 Embarrassed, TIN WOODMAN turns his attention back to WOOT.

TIN WOODMAN (OS)

   Well

1_03_32 TIN WOODMAN

I suppose in your travels that you have become very wise.

1_03_33 WOOT

No, Sire… In fact, the more I know, the less I realize that I know.

1_03_34 SCARECROW

Ah, yes. Well, if it’s any help… I’ve found that… learning is easy, young Woot. Begin with is asking questions.

1_03_35 WOOT

Oh, I do ask questions! Constantly, Sire!

1_03_36 TIN WOODMAN stands listening.

WOOT (OS)

I’ve learned people don't like having them asked.

TIN WOODMAN waves dismissively, then does a handstand on his axe.

TIN WOODMAN

Personally, I make it a rule to answer any civil question that is asked.

1_03_37 SCARECROW, seeing the virtuoso juggling exhibition, applauds vigorously.

SCARECROW

Oh, well, done. Very nice indeed.

1_03_38 With a flourish, TIN WOODMAN dismounts then leans on his axe.

1_03_39 TIN WOODMAN

So, ask Woot. Whatever you should wish to.

1_03_40 WOOT

Well, sir, if you wouldn’t mind… I should very much like to know

1_03_41 TIN WOODMAN, tossing and catching his axe, is surprised.

WOOT (OS)

how did you become made of tin?

1_03_41a WOOT

    and yet remain alive?

1_03_41b TIN WOODMAN

That, I’m afraid, is a rather long story.

1_03_42 SCARECROW rolls his yes.

SCARECROW

    I'll say

1_03_43 WOOT looks from SCARECROW to TIN WOODMAN to SCARECROW.

WOOT

If it pleases his Majesty, I should like to hear it.

1_03_44 TIN WOODMAN climbs the dais to his THRONE.

TIN WOODMAN

Well, then… I have not always been made of tin.

1_03_45 WOOT’s surprised. He shakes his head, settles in, his hands support his chin as he listens.

TIN WOODMAN (OS)

Indeed, in the beginning I was flesh and

1_03_46 TIN WOODMAN sit on his THRONE, leans back, crosses his legs. His expression becomes dreamy.

TIN WOODMAN

bone and blood… just like you… and I lived in the Munchkin Country of Oz…
