SEQUENCE 2_09 "YOOP CASTLE"

DISSOLVE TO:

2_09_01 EXT. OZ – BADLANDS - DAY

TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT discover a desolate valley. In the center stands an enormous YOOP CASTLE of purple stone. It’s high and broad and long, but has no turrets or towers. There’s one big door. A harsh, cold wind whips them as they stand before it.

TIN WOODMAN sinks down on a stump, despondent.

SCARECROW

     I wonder who lives there?

2_09_02 WOOT 172 That’s the biggest castle I ever saw.

2_09_04 SCARECROW 173 Perhaps, if we go nearer, we shall find out whether or not anybody lives there... Or not. What do you say, Sire?

2_09_05 TIN WOODMAN 174 I cannot think of castles, occupied or not... I cannot think of anything but Nimmie Amee... My heart drags at me.

2_09_06 SCARECROW 175 Well, just don’t make us drag you! Oh, come on. At least we might seek shelter tonight.

2_09_08 WOOT 175-01 D-do you think that’s... that's a good idea?

2_09_09 OS: Something howls on the plains. All around, strange noises erupt. TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT react, frightened.

SCARECROW (simultaneous) 175-02 It’s a good idea…

WOOT (simultaneous)

     I can hardly wait...

TIN WOODMAN (simultaneous)

     Pure genius...

TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT hurry toward the castle.

2_09_10 EXT. YOOP CASTLE - NIGHT

Approaching YOOP CASTLE, TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT discover, engraved in big letters over the doorway, the words: "YOOP CASTLE." The wind howls around them as they stare up at it.

2_09_11 WOOT 176 Seems empty. H-how d-do we get in?

2_09_12 SCARECROW studies the situation a moment, then smiles.

SCARECROW

     Got it...

2_09_13 Sitting on each other's shoulders: TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW and WOOT on top. WOOT manages to lift the latch. OS: inside the castle there⿿s an ominous echo.

2_09_14 INT. YOOP CASTLE - NIGHT

TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW and WOOT peep around the DOOR.

2_09_15 TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT advance cautiously—and suddenly—the DOOR slams shut behind them and they hear the latch click! Echoes boom through the castle’s COORIDORS.

2_09_16 TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT all jump back.

2_09_17 SCARECROW

     Ohhhhh...

SCARECROW tries desperately to push open the DOOR.

2_09_18 SCARECROW 177 Help—help! Help, someone—Help! Helllllp!

2_09_19 TIN WOODMAN covers SCARECROW'S mouth.

TIN WOODMAN 177-01 Shhhh... Stop that. Stop that. That’s not going to help… Let’s push ahead and see what may be seen.

2_09_23 SCARECROW 179 Suh-suh-somehow, I d-d-don’t think that this was the best solution to our problem…

2_09_20 INT. CORRIDOR

TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT keep close together along a stone COORIDOR with many doors along. They pass strange STATUES and odd PAINTINGS.

2_09_22 TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT cringe at strange sounds that echo through the HALLS.

2_09_21 TIN WOODMAN tugs at a door in the COORIDOR as WOOT and SCARECROW attempt to aid him.

TIN WOODMAN

     It... Won't... Budge...

With a mighty pull, TIN WOODMAN yanks open the door and they run through.

2_09_24 TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW and WOOT walk up steps into TUNNEL A.

WOOT (quietly awed) 180 Aren’t you amazed? I mean... look! Have you ever seen such decoration—or a palace of such magnitude?

2_09_25 TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT reach the end of a passage. Before them is a huge DECORATED DOOR.
