SEQUENCE 2_04 "SONG"

2_04_01 EXT. WOODS - DAY

TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW & WOOT walk along a stream.

2_04_02 WOOT jumps from rock to rock in the middle of the stream. SCARECROW is behind and tries to walk on the rocks on the stream side but loose foot and splashes water. TIN WOODMAN is the farthest away and walks with great care holding onto everything making sure he doesn't touch the water in any way.

2_04_03 WOOT and TIN WOODMAN walk on the side of the stream together. SCARECROW stays behind, stopped for a while, cleaning up his straws, restuffing himself.

2_04_04 WOOT and then TIN WOODMAN are passing SCARECROW who is preoccupied by something about his boot.

2_04_04a SCARECROW shakes his boot and is woried. Looks for some place to sit.

2_04_05 SCARECROW is sitting on a rock putting back his boot and straighten his back hands pushing on knees looking in front of him.

SCARECROW (exuberant)

Boy, am I glad that's over!

SCARECROW gets up

2_04_06 SCARECROW walks enthusiastically on the stream side.

SCARECROW Makes me feel kind of...

2_04_07 SCARECROW gesticulates and do a broad dance step

SCARECROW

     Loony. Heh-he.

2_04_08 TIN WOODMAN (surprised)

     Eh?

2_04_09 TIN WOODMAN & WOOT turn around to look at Scarecrow (OS), perplexed.

SCARECROW (singing)

     What sound is so sweet,
As the straw from the wheat,
When it crinkles so tender and low?

2_04_10 SCARECROW smiles towards Tin Woodman and Woot smiles at them, does another dance step, jumps into an arabesque and lands right in front of them with arms wide open looking at them, smiling head tilted.

TIN WOODMAN and WOOT watch him, surprised and amused.

WOOT

     What... What's he doing?

TIN WOODMAN (sighs)

I think his straw is getting moist.

2_04_11 Scarecrow, stands, arms wide, smiling in front of TIN WOODMAN and WOOT..

2_04_12 SCARECROW dances around TIN WOODMAN & WOOT.

SCARECROW

What sound is so sweet as the straw from the wheat when it crinkles so tender…

WOOT & TIN WOODMAN follow SCARECROW.

2_04_13 SCARECROW

     And low.

SCARECROW jumps one step toward TIN WOODMAN & WOOT, flexing his arms to make them crinkle.

2_04_14 SCARECROW is doing four backward dance steps.

SCARECROW

It is yellow and bright so it gives me delight…

2_04_15 SCARECROW does a half back-left turn, two step forward.

SCARECROW

     To crinkle wherever I go.

SCARECROW stops dancing, turns and jumps on a rock facing TIN WOODMAN and WOOT.

2_04_16 SCARECROW bends down and picks a straw of wheat from a clump of wheat growing high at the foot of the rock and holds it above his head.

SCARECROW

Sweet, fresh, golden straw, there is surely no flaw.

2_04_17 Scarecrow jumps down the rock "In a stuffing so clean and compact"

2_04_18 They are all moving forward. Scarecrow sings and dances in a few feet before them. He walks rhythmic lo-o-ong slow steps to make himself crinkle louder. "It creaks when I walk and it …"

2_04_19 Scarecrow still walking rhythmic long slow steps and now widens his arms as if he was giving a speach in front of an audience. "thrills when I talk and its fragrance is …"

2_04_20 TIN WOODMAN & WOOT look at each other, amused by Scarecrow's show.

TIN WOODMAN

     He's losing his mind.

SCARECROW

    Fine for a fact...

2_04_21 Scarecrow looks down for a while, thoughtfull and preoccupied. Woot and TinMan in the background look at Scarecrow, concerned. "I know it's been said that my beautiful head …"

2_04_22 Scarecrow looks away with sadness in his eyes. Woot and TinMan look at him in the background. "has brains of mixed wheat-straw and bran"

2_04_23 Scarecrow have regained confidence and enthousiasm, resumed trotting and dancing forward. "But my thoughts are so good, I'd not change if I could

2_04_24 3 more scarecrows are coming from the garden to join our Scarecrow for the next chorus. Scarecrow sees them only at the end. "for the brains of a common meat man."

2_04_25 Scarecrow and his 3 friends are singning in choir. The 3 other scarecrows are standing behind our own scarecrow and singning along, everybody adopting the same poses in synchrony. To cut me don't hurt for I've no blood to squirt and I therefore can suffer …."

2_04_26 Scarecrow turns around facing lady scarecrow and makes a gesture that invites her for a dance. "… no pain."

2_04_27 The 4 scarecrows are in-line signing the last line in chorus again doing the same choreography in synchrony. "Though it's pounded again and again"

2_04_28 The 4 scarecrows are in-line signing the last line in chorus again doing the same choreography in synchrony. "Though it's pounded again and again"

2_04_29 Scarecrow leaves the other scarecrows with a chassé a step and a spin turn ending up facing the camera. "Content with my lot."

2_04_30 Scarecrows continue moving toward the monticule with a spin turn, two steps and spin turn. "I know that I'm not."

2_04_31 Scarecrow does a spin turn, two running steps and a spinning summersault ending facing the camera. "Like others I meet day by day."

2_04_32 Scarecrow jumps from rock to rock and turns toward the camera. "When my inside gets musty,"

2_04_33 Scarecrow jumps from rock to upper rock and turns toward the camera. "or mussed-up or dusty,"

2_04_34 Scarecrow jumps on top of the mound, turns toward the camera and sing his last sentence like he's on top of the world, stays there, contemplative for a moment. "I get newly stuffed right away."

2_04_35 Scarecrow exits from his comtemplative state and looks down doing a couple takes searching for Woot and TinMan who have been walking, progressing forward in the meantime. Then he finds them and decides to jump down.

2_04_36 SCARECROW jumps down the mound to join WOOT and TIN WOODMAN. WOOT and TIN WOODMAN clap.

TIN WOODMAN

     What a performer.

2_04_37 TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW & WOOT walk away next to the stream. TIN WOODMAN winks at WOOT.

WOOT

He certainly gives it his all.

TIN WOODMAN

     Wonderful.

2_04_38 Long shot of the fall.
