SEQUENCE 3_05 - "OZMA"
DEEPCUT - DAY
3_05_01 Rabbit transforms into OZMA. She smiles.
3_05_02 Surprised, GREEN MONKEY stands perfectly still then recovers himself and cautiously bows before her.
GREEN MONKEY 318 Am... am I truly in the presence of the Grand Ozma?
3_05_03 OZMA laughs… a delightful, tinkling sound… like tiny silvery bells.
OZMA 319 And who else would I be?
3_05_04 OZMA looks at TIN OWL, STRAW BEAR, GREEN MONKEY, and TIN GIRL. She shakes her head.
OZMA 320 I do declare... Even in the land of Oz, you are an odd bunch! Tell me... How can I help you?
3_05_05 TIN OWL 321 Ozma! Don't you recognize us? The giantess, Mrs. Yoop, turned us into these dreadful shapes against our will for no reason other than she was a contrary person.
3_05_06 OZMA 322 Oh, dear. Is that you, Tin Woodman? Scarecrow? Oh, my. What trouble you always seem to get yourselves into.
OZMA draws from her bosom a small silver wand, makes a few test waves.
3_05_07 OZMA casually waves her hand over STRAW BEAR. In a cascade of glistening magic, STRAW BEAR becomes SCARECROW’s head and empty clothing.
3_05_08 SCARECROW 323 Oh, my word! Am I? Could it be? Oh! Oh, joy. Oh, rapture! Stuff me! Stuff me! Use grass if you must! Hurry! I can’t wait!
3_05_09 GREEN MONKEY 323-01 Um, okay, over here.
Overjoyed to see SCARECROW restored, GREEN MONKEY happily stuffs grass into SCARECROW's body. TIN OWL and TIN GIRL join in.
SCARECROW 323-02 More, hurry!
3_05_10 TIN OWL is unable to move much GRASS with his feet.
TIN GIRL 323-03 Use your beak.
3_05_11 GREEN MONKEY 323-04 Enough?
SCARECROW 323-05 No, no, my leg, my leg!
3_05_12 TIN OWL 323-06 Here we go…
3_05_13 SCARECROW is complete but lumpy.
SCARECROW 324 Even filled with grass, I feel I am myself. This is a great day indeed. Thank you so much, Ozma.
3_05_14 OZMA 325 You’re welcome Scarecrow. Now, next?
OZMA passes the silver wand over the head of TIN OWL.
3_05_15 TIN OWL becomes TIN WOODMAN. TIN WOODMAN has a surprised look on his face.
3_05_16 TIN GIRL reacts in surprise when she sees TIN WOODMAN.
TIN GIRL 326 Why?... You're made of Tin... As am I!
3_05_17 TIN WOODMAN smiles shyly at TIN GIRL.
TIN WOODMAN 327 As... As a tin owl, I could not reasonably expect to make your acquaintance...
TIN GIRL 327-01 Yes, I suppose that's so.
TIN WOODMAN 327-02 But now I am in my proper form, perhaps you will let me woo you.
3_05_18 TIN GIRL does not respond.
3_05_19 TIN WOODMAN becomes embarrassed and begins to turn away but TIN GIRL takes his hand.
3_05_20 TIN WOODMAN and TIN GIRL look into each other’s eyes.
3_05_21 OZMA 328 How sweet.
3_05_22 GREEN MONKEY grimaces.
GREEN MONKEY 329 Yuck!
3_05_23 TIN GIRL 330 But I… I am afraid that I… cannot return your love for I have no heart.
3_05_24 TIN WOODMAN is crestfallen. He releases TIN GIRL’s hand. He staggers back several feet.
3_05_25 TIN WOODMAN collapses sitting on a TREE STUMP, his hand upon his chest.
3_05_26 TIN WOODMAN looks up at TIN GIRL, then at OZMA.
TIN WOODMAN 331 It is too much for me. Love is too difficult. Please, Ozma, take away my heart. I cannot abide it any longer.
3_05_27 SCARECROW helps TIN WOODMAN steady himself.
SCARECROW 331-01 This "love" thing is getting ridiculous.
3_05_28 SCARECROW puts his head to TIN WOODMAN’S chest. SCARECROW becomes alarmed.
SCARECROW 332 I cannot hear your heart ticking!
TIN WOODMAN 333 It is broken beyond repair.
3_05_29 TIN GIRL 334 Oh, my! I am so terribly sorry.
3_05_30 GREEN MONKEY 335 Ozma! Can you please help our friend with his heartbreak?
3_05_31 OZMA (shaking her head) 336 Unfortunately… in affairs of the heart, I am powerless.
3_05_32 OZMA turns toward TIN WOODMAN and SCARECROW.
OZMA 337 However, I do know that you have it within yourself to heal both of you.
3_05_33 TIN WOODMAN’S eyes slowly open in recognition.
TIN WOODMAN Ohhhhh.
3_05_34 TIN WOODMAN stands tall, confidently walks to TIN GIRL.
3_05_35 TIN WOODMAN opens his chest plate to remove one half of his broken HEART.
3_05_36 TIN WOODMAN opens up TIN GIRL’s chest plate and puts half of his HEART into her.
3_05_37 A light goes on in TIN GIRL’s eye.
TIN GIRL 338 Oh!
3_05_38 TIN WOODMAN waits expectantly. TIN GIRL smiles at TIN WOODMAN and they embrace.
3_05_38a
"My Love, Your Love" song
3_05_39 GREEN MONKEY 340 Yuck! Please, Ozma, I am anxiously awaiting a return to my boy form.
3_05_40 SCARECROW 340-01 Eh. Eh, yes, Woot... Ozma, please change our friend. Being a green monkey does not suit him.
3_05_41 OZMA (pitying) 341 My poor boy, your enchantment is different from the others.
3_05_42 SCARECROW 341-01 Different?
3_05_43 GREEN MONKEY 341-02 Different? What do you mean? How is it different?
3_05_44 OZMA 341-03 Indeed, it is a form that is impossible to alter by any magic known to fairies or yookoohoos. The wicked giantess was well aware when she gave you the form of a green monkey… that the green monkey must exist in the Land of Oz for all time.
3_05_45 GREEN MONKEY is stunned. He looks around.
TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and TIN GIRL are also stunned and saddened.
3_05_47 GREEN MONKEY 341-04 Then… I’m…
3_05_48 OZMA shakes her head sadly.
3_05_49 GREEN MONKEY turns away. TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW and TIN GIRL kneel and reach out for him.
SCARECROW 341-05 Woot...
TIN WOODMAN 341-06 Oh, if only there were some way...
3_05_50 GREEN MONKEY shakes his head. He looks at OZMA.
WOOT (sighing) 341-07 Well... I wanted life to be... different...
3_05_51 GREEN MONKEY looks at SCARECROW and TIN WOODMAN. They look saddened.
3_05_52 GREEN MONKEY capers around a bit, attempting to raise everyone’s spirits.
GREEN MONKEY (feigned cheeriness) 342 Come on, huh? That's not so bad, is it? Huh? I mean... Look, what did we set out to do? Find Tin Woodman's true love... And we did... Didn't we?
3_05_53 TIN GIRL 343 There must be some way to return Woot to his natural form.
3_05_54 OZMA 344 He might transfer or exchange with someone else… but the green monkey we cannot get rid of.
3_05_55 TIN WOODMAN, TIN GIRL and SCARECROW trade looks.
SCARECROW 345 Then change me to the green monkey.
3_05_56 GREEN MONKEY 347 No! No… I wouldn’t ask anyone to take this dreadful form. We’ll just let things stay… the way they are.
3_05_57 TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and TIN GIRL are silent for a moment.
3_05_58 TIN GIRL’s eyes go wide.
3_05_59 Behind GREEN MONKEY’S back, TIN GIRL leans over and whispers into OZMA’s ear. OZMA reacts, laughs delightedly.
OZMA 348 Oh you are the clever one.
3_05_60 GREEN MONKEY 348-01 What? What did she... Wait...
3_05_61 OZMA waves her silver wand over GREEN MONKEY’s head and he changes into WOOT.
3_05_62 WOOT notices slowly then jumps up.
WOOT 348-02 What? How? Oh, my...
3_05_63 TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and TIN GIRL hug WOOT.
WOOT 349 Oh, Ozma, Thank you! Thank you, so much. How did you do it?
WOOT frowns as he thinks of the possibilities.
WOOT 350 Wait! You didn't transform anyone else into a green monkey, did you?
3_05_65 TIN GIRL 351 Don’t worry, Woot. It wasn’t anyone who didn’t deserve it.
TIN GIRL winks at OZMA.
